DIY Gifts Part 1... Honey, Honey, How You Thrill Me!

It's still the holiday season and although this probably would have been more helpful BEFORE Christmas, I'm going to post it now anyway!Z and I tried to be as frugal and money savvy as possible when it came to Christmas gifts this year {not that previous Christmases have included frivolous spending but we were MORE conscious of it this time around} and most of our presents to friends and family were homemade by yours truly. I had some help with the initial ideas in most of them but I thought I would share the wealth. If you still haven't gotten anything for someone, these are great {and inexpensive} options and if you've just about had it with the holidays, bookmark these babies for next year!

This fab-gift find came compliments of one of my favorite bloggers {whom I KNOW I've mentioned before}, Darby at Fly Through Our Window. It's sshoooper sshimple and sshoooper delissshouss. Did you catch my lisp there??? It's CINNAMON HONEY BUTTER! - YUM - Darby explains it all in her original post but I'll walk you through how it went down in our kitchen! Here's what you need:

  • 4 sticks of butter
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 cups of honey
  • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon ... more if you're like me and LOVE cinnamon!

* I doubled the original recipe*

As a disclaimer... I do not own a standing mixer... or a hand mixer... terrible, I know. This was easy by hand and would have been even easier with a mixer but this is proof that it can be done with primitive tools like wooden spoons {gasp}.

Be sure you butter is a room temperature. I put mine in the microwave for about 15 seconds to soften it a little more since I was going the mixing by hand. For the packaging I grabbed some half pint mason jars and Christmasy fabric.

Wash and dry the jars then fill with yummy deliciousness!

My doubled recipe filled six half pint jars

I then cut the fabric with enough room to hang off the lid on all ends. Pop the top on and you're good to go!

My little butter army!

These make great gifts for friends and family {and yourself} and could really be for any occasion. The special touch can be in the type of fabric you choose!

Stay tuned for more DIY holiday fun!

Until next time...
